Elgin City Council Budget Hearing Set for June 9

May 14, 2026

The Elgin City Council is set to hold the 2026-2027 budget hearing on June 9 at 6:00PM in Elgin City Hall, 790 S 8th Ave Elgin, OR 97827. Mayor S. James Johnson shared the following message on his official social media page:

Last night, the Elgin Budget Committee approved several important investments for our community, and these recommendations will now move forward to the City Council for final approval.

The committee approved an additional $1,500 toward the donations fund to help purchase a big, beautiful Christmas tree for the holiday season. We also approved $1,000 per councilor for much-needed training opportunities so our council can continue learning and serving our citizens effectively.

An additional $10,000 was approved for RV park improvements, bringing that fund to a total of $20,000 for maintenance and upgrades. Our RV park continues to be a huge blessing for the City of Elgin and remains an important source of revenue that helps keep costs and fees lower for our citizens while supporting city operations and improvements.

The maintenance fund was also increased by $1,000 for improvements to the downtown Witty Park area, and we currently have $5,000 set aside in the sidewalk fund to add decorative rock around the base of the trees heading up Division Street.

In addition, we recently received a $250,000 grant for street paving projects throughout our community. Planned paving improvements include sections of Birch Street, S 7th Street, S 12th Street, Carolyn Terrace, and Baltimore Street. This is a major investment in Elgin’s infrastructure and future.

We’re excited about the direction our community is heading and the continued investments being made into Elgin. Once final approval is completed by the City Council, the work begins!
